About me and my inspiration.

Picture
Hi!  I'm Lori.  The woman with the sense of humor to call my business Old Ladies on Fire.  More about that below.

I said I was 'uniquely qualified' - here's why...
I'm 57, was an athlete as a kid (but definitely didn't appreciate my body then), spent 20+ years raising kids and working - in and out of the home, and found my way back into health and wellness about 20 years ago.
From a physical fitness perspective, I'm certified with IIN (Nutrition), NASM (Personal Training) and ACE (Group Fitness).
Along with that, I'm certified by HeartMath (stress management), and in Positive Psychology, as well as being an EFT practitioner, and a Certified Visual Coach.

I've led loads of workshops and had lots of 1 on 1 clients and what I really want to bring to these classes is as much  mindset as muscles.  So you can expect the unexpected!

Old Ladies on Fire???
What kind of a name is that?

One that's meant to make you smile.
Of course I don't think anyone at midlife is 'old'.  This whole thing came from a conversation I had with a friend about aging when I said, 'I don't just want to get old, I want to be an old lady on fire'!  I want to live life full out, have lots of fun, be myself, speak up, do all the things I want to do, have all the adventures.  And when it comes to fitness and health, I need a body that supports all that.

The Approach.

We do need to be strong, and flexible, and have good cardiorespiratory capacity.  But, for many of us, as we get older, unless you've never stopped going to the gym, it's likely that you're not as fit as you want to be.  Maybe you do lots of walking, or hike or bike on the weekends, or do yoga, but, really, that's not enough.  We need muscles.  And we need mobility.

But, again, for many of us, it's not that simple to just weight train.  We don't necessarily know how, or feel intimidated, or there are injuries, or issues with joints or muscles, or illnesses that need to be taken into account.  Maybe personal training or a gym membership isn't in the budget.  So, next best thing, a group class!  But not just any class (because of the injuries, etc...) because, at this stage in life, especially if you've been more sedentary than usual (thanks to the last couple of years), you need a workout that suits you where you are at right now.  You need personal attention, correction on form if necessary, exercises that take things into account, and even the right community so that you feel like you're in the right place - and you want to come back.

The Logistics

For right now, a once a week Saturday morning outdoor class, with a limitation on class size (so you get that personal attention).  A focus on form and keeping you injury free.  Starting from a place that feels good to you and suits your body (or more intense/harder for those who need it or are ready for it).  Equipment, aside from a mat, provided.  Outside, in a park to soak up the fresh air and sunshine.  Great playlists - with music you know and love - and maybe even want to dance a little to.

Eventually, more options, at different times and days and, maybe in other parts of the city.  And, likely, personal training as well.  Stay tuned!

The Location

We will be at the DouglasQuarry Community Garden.  Google Douglasdale outdoor rink and you'll find us.  Lots of parking on Douglas Shore Close SE.

One more thing.  The best place to find me is definitely Instagram.  There will be lots of great resources there eventually as well as class locations, etc.  Link is below.

Any questions?

Or would you like to be notified by email of upcoming classes or events?  (And that's it, I'm not a newsletter person.)
